As an ACA registered counsellor, I’m passionate about helping people to regain control of their lives. We all know that change can make us uneasy, and we have a tendency to stick with what we know. However, this can sometimes make it difficult to move forward. I see my work as helping people to discover fresh perspectives and strategies to allow positive change to take place.
I have worked as a counsellor and coach for over 10 years. In this time, I have supported individuals, families and children, helping them to overcome their difficulties and move forward. I offer a sensitive and professional service, and the foundation of my practice is building an open and trusting relationship with my clients. Establishing this lets me help clients make positive improvements in as short a time as possible.
Having supported people in the community for over 20 years, I have built up a broad range of therapeutic experience. This practical experience is complemented by formal study during my psychology degree and counselling diploma.
I am currently employed as a school counsellor and also have my own private practice.
Work with children & young people
I regard working with children and young people as a real privilege, because it offers the opportunity to make long-lasting and life- impacting changes.
I’m a qualified teacher and personal development/youth impact coach. My experience of working with children and teenagers has given me a particular interest in equipping them with the skills they need to cope with 21st century life.
For the last 3 years, I have been running resilience groups in schools to help children regulate their emotions, manage stress and anxiety, improve confidence and self-esteem, positively resolve conflict and navigate friendships and bullying. I call these Emoji Groups.
Emoji Groups provide a safe space for children to share their feelings, experiences and learn and practise new skills. Each group is tailored to the individual needs of its members, and the children can provide input into the content and learning of the sessions. By the end of ten weekly sessions, children and young people in the groups report improved relationships, feeling calmer and having more control of their emotions.
In addition to Emoji Groups, during the school holidays, I offer one-day school holiday workshops on managing anxiety & stress, confidence & self-esteem, emotional regulation & conflict resolution and friendship & bullying. I am able to work with your school and teachers to incorporate Emoji Groups into the health curriculum and support teachers to increase resilience in your classrooms.
